Tax those rich car-driving people and give me free subways!
This is an idea whose time has come. Leave it to a 93-year-old lawyer and transit advocate to come up with an idea so simple, it should be hardly shocking that no one’s thought of it before.
Subways cost too much, so people drive more. Make subways free and tax the drivers and voila!, you’ve solved your traffic congestion, you’ve solved the ever-present threat of deficit at the MTA, and you’ve found a way to make the city more liveable for all. Because really, you don’t need a car in NYC. We have taxi cabs for that.
